WHAT WE DO

Class 1 Zone 2 Engineering are Area Classification Experts.  We prepare certified Area Classification Drawings and Area Classification Studies for our clients and their facilities.  We help you navigate the complex world of codes, standards and recommended practices to determine what hazards exist in your new or existing facility and enable your electrical installation team to confidently select the most cost effective materials and installation methods to protect your assets and employees.  For more information regarding what types of questions you might be asking please refer to our FAQ section.

It is a requirement of the Canadian Electrical Code (and other jurisdictions governed by similar code rules) to have an Engineer formally identify, document and authenticate potential sources of combustible liquids, vapors, gases, dusts or filings in any facility where electrical equipment is installed.  Your electrical inspector will insist on it.  Preparing an Area Classification Drawing is the usual solution and in complicated installations a full Area Classification Study may be required.

Installation methods for Classified Areas are defined in the Canadian Electrical Code sections 18 and 20.  Not having an Area Classification Drawing for a facility that requires one will stop your installation or operation in its tracks.

We offer many other electrical engineering services as well, please refer to our Other Services Provided section
